CEDAR PARK/ LEANDER ISD
Driven by an uncompromising vision and an unwavering devotion to continuous improvement, academic challenge and character development, the LeanderIndependentSchool District continues to be among Texas’ fastest-growing school districts – welcoming more than 2,000 new students this school year as we near 24,000 total students! Leander ISD’s success is based on three key elements: a continually improving world-class curriculum, a focus on teaching and modeling ethical behavior, and encouragement of a level of parent and community involvement that is the envy of school districts across Texas.
Four Leander ISD Schools on List of State’s Best
Leander High School and Cedar Park High School are among the best in the state, according to Texas Monthly. The December issue of Texas Monthly (currently on newsstands) ranks 574 of the state’s best elementary, middle and high schools. RunningBrushyMiddle School and Laura Welch Bush Elementary also made the list, placing four Leander ISD schools among the state’s best.
Only 75 of Texas’ 1,700+ high schools made the “Higher Performing Schools” list, placing LHS and CPHS among the top 4.4 percent of Texas’ high schools.
The Texas Monthly “Best Schools in Texas” list was created by the Austin-based NationalCenter for Educational Accountability (NCEA), formerly known as Just for the Kids, a research arm of the University of Texas. NCEA analyzes how students fare in measurable curricular areas — reading, writing, math, science, and social studies — and takes the demographic makeup of the student body into account to proclaim worthy schools “higher performing.” The NCEA data study included Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) testing scores for 2004, 2005 and 2006.
