Round Rock ISD is widely considered one of the best school districts in the state. The following highlights just a few of the district's achievements.

WestwoodHigh School is again among the 100 Best High Schools in America according to Newsweek magazine. The school was ranked 76th among public high schools nationwide based on the ratio of Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) tests taken to graduating seniors. Round Rock High School (448th) and McNeil High School (521st) in Round Rock ISD were also included in the magazine’s Web list of 1,000 schools—the top four percent of the 27,468 public high schools nationwide.
State Farm present $10,000 to support RRISD teachers in the National Board Certification Program. National Board Certification is a symbol of teaching excellence. A voluntary process established by NBPTS, it is achieved through a rigorous performance-based assessment that takes nearly a year to complete. This brings to 14 the number of RRISD teachers who are nationally certified.
Joy Killough, a science teacher at WestwoodHigh School, was selected as the Region XIII Secondary Teacher of the Year. Killough was eligible for Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year honors.
For the 2004-05 school year, 57.5 percent of Round Rock ISD schools earned the top two accountability ratingsfrom the Texas Education Agency: 23 of the 40 regular campuses measured received ratings of Exemplary or Recognized. That compares to 27.3 percent of Texas schools that earned the top ratings. No RRISD school was rated unacceptable.
The Texas Education Agency recognized 30 Round Rock ISD campuses (75 percent) with one or more Gold Performance Acknowledgments (GPA) for high performance. Statewide, 31 percent of schools earned one or more GPAs.
For 2004-05, more RRISD students on average met TAKS standards than their peers statewide. The percentage of students earning commended recognition is also higher in RRISD than statewide and continues to increase. Scores indicate gaps between student groups are closing.
More than 97 percent of 2,150 RRISD seniors graduating in 2005 met the TAKS passing standards required to graduate. That compares to 89 percent statewide.
Round Rock ISD students on average earn higher scores on the college entrance exams than state or national averages each year.
TEA has awarded RRISD the top rating of "Superior Achievement" in the Texas Schools FIRST financial accountability system. The district has earned perfect scores each year since the system was established in 2001.
The National Institute of Governmental Purchasing presented the Round Rock ISD Purchasing Department the 2005 Innovations in Public Procurement Award for innovative practices in technology, communication, and community outreach.
The RRISD Transportation Department received the 2004 Larson Award for Quality School Transportation from the National Association of Pupil Transportation.
·         The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has ranked Round Rock ISD among the 2005 Top 25 Partners in the National Green Power Partnership Program. All of the electricity used in the 15 RRISD facilities located in the Austin Energy service area is supplied by green power, which includes environmentally-preferable renewable resources such as solar, wind, or geothermal power. RRISD continues to be a Green Power Leadership Club member, an honor granted to Green Power Partners that have made an exemplary green power purchase that significantly exceeds minimum Green Power Partnership purchase requirements.
